Leyton Blackler(he/him)

I’m a full-stack software engineer with a passion and focus on building intuitive and impactful digital experiences that drive both user satisfaction and measurable outcomes.

My tech journey started in my early teens and became formalised with a first-class honours degree in software engineering from Victoria University of Wellington in 2019. Since then, I’ve built a versatile career, honing my skills across various areas of development in professional environments.

While I thrive in frontend development, from conceptualising UI/UX designs to implementing them, I’m also adept at navigating backend challenges when needed.

Outside of coding, you’ll find me pursuing fitness goals at the gym or enjoying a board game with friends. I also value spending quality time with my partner Jess, family, and close friends, ensuring a balance between my work and personal life.

My beliefs

  • 01
    Human-centred design
Software systems that require interaction from humans should be designed for humans. The experience of engaging in these systems should be intuitive, natural and frictionless.
  • 02
    Enjoyable experiences
The modern world relies on software. It's important that systems serve the purposes they are built for, but this doesn't mean that the experiences of achieving outcomes through software can't still be engaging and enjoyable.
  • 03
    Sustainably crafted code
Programming languages are an abstraction of machine instructions, however, software written for machines should not only be understood by machines, but also others. Code should be written in way where it can be efficiently understood by others to ensure longevity.
  • 04
    Respectful collaboration
Effective systems emerge from collaborative efforts, not isolation. By listening to and respecting everyone's ideas, teams can leverage diverse perspectives to cultivate healthy development environments and build better software together.
